Two Door Cinema Club Spotlight
Northern Ireland’s Two Door Cinema Club has garnered a massive global following thanks to its infectious fusion of electronic beats and guitar-driven pop melodies. Normally backed by drums, synths, and the roar of sold-out crowds, Two Door Cinema Club’s Spotlight session offers a rare glimpse at the band performing in a quieter, more intimate atmosphere. “Sleep Alone” and “Next Year” – from the band’s newest album, Beacon – and breakthrough hit “What You Know” morph into something more introspective than on studio recordings, highlighting singer Alex Trimble’s heartfelt vocals while remaining irresistibly catchy.
Bandmates Alex Trimble and Sam Halliday met while attending grammar school in Northern Ireland and soon added bassist Kevin Baird to their new band, Two Door Cinema Club. The three decided to skip university to pursue a career in music, releasing their first material together, an EP entitled Four Words To Stand On, in 2009. The release immediately picked up buzz and critical praise, leading to the band’s first full-length album, Tourist History, in 2010. The album won the Meteor Choice Music Prize for best Irish album of the year and propelled Two Door Cinema Club to appearances at major festivals across the US and UK. In September 2012, the band released its second album, Beacon, which debuted at the Number One and Two spots in Ireland and the UK, respectively, and hit the Top 20 in the US.
